At the beginning of the 20th century, the company decided to produce highly aged whiskey for export to the United States, where, due to the rapidly developing economy, there was a great demand for luxury goods. This type of whiskey was named Chivas Regal 25 and was the leading brand of Scotch whiskey in the American market until Prohibition came into force in 1920. After the repeal of Prohibition, Chivas returned to the American market under the Chivas Regal 12 brand. It became the stylish drink of the era, thanks in large part to its advertising as the favorite whiskey of Frank Sinatra. In 1997, Chivas Regal blender Colin Scott created an eighteen-year-old whiskey. In 2000, Pernod Ricard acquired Chivas Regal.
